The city of Matanzas (in the province of Matanzas), is 40 km from Varadero and 100 km from Havana. Once known for the old city’s fort and the colonial palaces of the sugar barons, it is now known for its arts and music scene.
Our two apartments (Casa Rio & Casa Luna) are housed in a two-storey building that has a total of 7 units. Both of our apartments are located on the top floor, allowing unprecedented views of the “Malecon” and river. Situated in the centre of Matanzas, the Malecon is a fabulous pedestrian boardwalk running parallel to the river, hosting several bars and restaurants. Next door Plaza de la Vigia is a popular spot for public Wi-Fi, cafes/bars, art gallery and theatre (Teatro Sauto) showcasing Cuban ballet and classical music. The square often has musical performances, art shows, and book fairs. If you like the vibrance of Cuban music, Matanzas is the place to be.
